If this was to be compared to any of the two color wheels above, you can clearly make the connections to two different emotions, danger and love, which were both present as Liesel's world fell apart. This isn't the only time Zusak uses death's perspective to convey the use of the color theory in The Book Thief. As Liesel's world was crumbling beneath her, Zusak was able to perfectly let us know how she felt through the colors Death saw.
Zusak continuously uses colors to tie together scenes all throughout The Book Thief. This meant that Death had to carry many more souls. As Death is collecting the souls of the Jews in the concentration camps, Zusak is able to effectively portray the use of the color theory. For me, the sky was the color of Jews When their fingernails had scratched at the wood and in some cases were nailed into it by the sheer force of desperation, their spirits came towards me As Death begins his horrifying once job, he must distract himself with the colors that surround him.
However, these colors don't just mean anything because they represent directly the feelings of the Jews in their last moments. As you have probably noticed, the two color wheels above do not share the same meanings for every color. The reason behind that is because each color can have a different meaning depending on the situation in which used. When carrying the Jews, Death's description of the yellow sky correlates to the feelings of fright, uncertainty, and apprehension.
The use of yellow in this situation really allows to understand the Jew's emotions as death continuously appears around them. Throughout these horrifying events, the Jews cannot feel anything else but those emotions. Zusak's description of a yellow sky changes the whole mood of the scene, and also allows us to understand how Death feels throughout his experience of carrying all of those Jewish souls.
This connection of Death and the colors is what allowed Zusak to effectively use the color theory throughout The Book Thief. As you can probably tell by now, the ability to see color is not just a "normality" as it actually allows for much more, such as portraying different emotions in different medias.
